Scifi project

Game of Thrones

A dmp I did for Game of Thrones. I will upload plenty more soon as I have been working on the entiere first season of the show.

AVATAR

the first image is a crop of the wider dmp at the bottom. Sometimes we need to create really big images in order to pan/zoom/rotate inside. Here is an example for Avatar.
You'll notice the stitch is from the previz we worked from.

AVATAR

Example of final touch dmp does for full CG movies like Avatar. We took the rendered 3D light and textured, and on top of it we 'painted' additional details.
Here, it's mainly stains and light bounce, as well antennas and other minor details.

On the next few post, I will show you some steps in the process of a camera projected matte painting. This example is using 6 Proj Cameras or so. Then on a later stage, a comp artist is adding the people around the shot from live action elements shot with a camera mount on a rig that recreates the same movement all the times.

Prince of Persia

same as before, but bigger resolution.

Sherlock Holmes

Projected dmp. Changing the live action elements into old London elements. dmp, had to be split into few layers, then projected.

Prince of Persia

Projected dmp, needed to re do the environment behind the actor, as well as the ground.

Red Balloon the movie

Have a look at the movie I co-directed with my friend Alexis Wajsbrot.

Avatar

Ok, for those who will look at the movie frame by frame to check where this dmp is,  first, the color grade is wrong. It is just a grade for me to work, that have check during the production.
Also, at the very end, Cameron asked to remove the tarmac, and the reflection light are different.
You have to understand that due to Stereoscopic render, I had to provide a LOT of layer, pretty much everything was on layer for the compositor to be more flexible if modification. So you are looking at a flat version I deliver, but then the comp does his.
I will send some more Avatar work I did in the future.

Sherlock Holmes

Once again, an other big dmp (16K, 16Bits).
I will post some more cropped details areas later.

Sherlock Holmes

This is a HUGE dmp (16 K in 16 Bits), I will send some more details area of that matte painting later.
This is as far as I went, because it is slightly different in the movie, Sean Samuels did a little fix of the Tower Bridge from a client request later on. So in the movie it appears with 3 more lights on the bridge.
Also it is a flat version that I show you, but due to the camer movement it is all projected with a lot of parallax on the right side of it. I will also send that later.

Wolfman

Initially the transformation was meant to be full prosthetic, but we were still asked to do a CG version, so here is some concept for the CG one. I didn't see the movie yet, so I don't know if it has been kept or not.

Narnia Prince Caspian

early concept for Narnia Prince Caspian. I only work on the detail part of this concept.

Watchmen

lighting variation. It was an early concept before the vfx starts.

Sweeney Todd

before/after

Sweeney Todd

Before/after
This very dmp was nice as I had to work directly with Tim Burton. There were no supervisor or lead in between to tell me what to do, I really enjoyed it. It's not everyday that T.Burton gives you direct feedback.

Narnia Prince Caspian

I had to do 8 or 9 declinations about that cut (shorter, longer, biger, etc...)
